Amazon UK updated the release date for Hideo Kojima’s “Death Stranding” and people are confused.

So What’s the Deal?

Amazon UK recently updated the launch date for upcoming sci-fi action game Death Stranding as March 29th, 2019. While no official release date has been given, many sources have the game set to release on New Year’s Eve of this year (December 31st, 2018). Amazon US has not changed the date, so many consumers are confused whether or not the new date is valid.

While it’s possible that Amazon UK knows something the rest of the world doesn’t, releasing information to only one source seems counterintuitive. Although Kojima’s E3 2018 showcase did hint at setbacks for the game’s development timeline, it’s uncertain why the release date needs to remain a mystery – especially when he’s claimed there’s been one all along.

Why So Mysterious?

If you know anything about Hideo Kojima you know that it’s not out of character for him to veil both himself and his work in a shroud of mystery. It seems as though he prefers to keep fans in the dark on most projects, only giving small glimpses here and there. Even now, two years after the initial Death Stranding announcement at E3, there still has not been a lot of information given on what exactly it is.

Perhaps the mysterious nature behind Death Stranding is a brilliant scheme to build anticipation and keep fans wanting more. Because it will be the first game released under Kojima Productions, and Kojima’s first release without Konami, a lot is riding on its success.
